You will more than likely prefer to be a human, trollocs are more of a pk race and they have no safe havens or comfort zones to exp in. so pick human and choose your class warrior, ranger, thief, or channeller. I would recommend a warrior for you first timers. Next you will appear in the here;

A stone is here, waiting for your complaints.
The Guardian of Life stands here, ever vigilant.
type kit to receive a set of newbie equipment
The Guardian of Life tells you 'This is your kit, given to you once per life,
As long as you are under the level of 5'
You are carrying:
a large slab of meat
a burlap sack
a water flask
a pair of hiking boots
a pair of worn pants
a burning torch
a small wooden shield
a wooden practice sword
a large slab of meat
a pair of worn gloves
a pair of leather armguards
a tattered shirt
a thin leather helmet
Now head down to caemlyn,
Plaza at the Heart of Caemlyn
The crowds push at you from every side as you walk around. You notice a lovely
fountain in the center of the square. Water sprays upwards from it offering a
refreshing drink to the citizens of Camelyn. The smell of fresh baked bread
reaches your noise and you can hear the exchange of money to the south.
Sounds of metal against metal ring to the west.

the above are skills you can practice, you gain practice points with each level you earn. The character I am using for this is a level 1 warrior you will see I can practice my warrior skills for a cost of 1 practice point per gain, it will cost me 2 for each ranger skill, and 2 for thief as well.
Now starting your warrior off you will want to practice your wpn as much as you can then head out to kill the big bad deer which are located south of the city, and immediately beyond the east and west gates.
You will rise in levels as you kill the deer at level 5 type stat and you will see
You are a 17 year old human.
Your mood is currently: Brave
It's your birthday today.
Height 194 cm, Weight 178 pounds, Weight carried 10 lbs, Worn: 14 lbs.
Offensive Bonus: 69 Dodge Bonus: 0, Parry Bonus: 29
Your abilities are: Str: 17, Int: 12, Wis: 12, Dex: 11, Con: 18
Your armor absorbs 1% damage on average.
by the way max stat is 19
I have a strenght of 17 pretty good, intellegence I'm not worried about thats since I'm a warrior, wisdom of 12 no biggee i'm a warrior, dexretity of 11, well if I wanted to go dodge I would shoot for more, and finally a constitution of 18 which is very good
heres the importance of stats to each class from greatest to least important
warrior: str con dex int wis
thief: dex str con int wis
channeller: int wis dex con str
my minimum stat recommendations for each class
warrior: 17 x x x 17
thief: 15 x x 18 17
channeller: x 17 17 17 15
x means its rather unimportant to that class.
Now if you are unhappy with your stat just type self delete quit and relog on with the same name, you will be a brand new character ready to stat again, if you are happy with your stats or finally get some good ones you will want to go practice again, remember to practice ride so you can give your feet a rest and not go haggard all the time
after around level 6 or 7 start trying to kill boar they are worth much more exp, at around levlel 10 you might be able to take an elk and you will see they are even better exp.
Keep track of your hitpoints and moves, you dont want to die or go haggard, to do so just type score, you will see something like this:
You have 67(67) hit and 142(142) movement points.
You have scored 20360 exp, 0 total quest points, and have 500 gold coins.
You need 19640 exp to reach your next level.
You have been playing for 0 days and 0 hours.
You have gathered 0 Weave Points so far.
This ranks you as Brandobar the Newbie (level 5) <---------
You are not a member of any clans.
You are standing.
you see I am Brandobar the Newbie, my name followed by my title, I would recommend all you young newbie to use that title, to change your title just type change title xxx, so you would type change title the newbie. now everyone will know you are new to the mud and some might be inclined to help you out while those evil trolls will know to leave you alone if one happens to come upon you.
for a decent list of help commands type help and you can also type help commands, or try typing help followed by the subject you need help with such as, help alias brings up
help alias
ALIAS ALIASES
Usage: alias [alias name] [command]
An alias is a single command used to represent one or more other commands.
The ALIAS command can be used to manipulate your character's aliases. Type
ALIAS alone to see a list of your currently defined aliases.
> alias
Type ALIAS <alias name> <command> to create a new alias. The alias name must
be one word. The command can be any string. Aliases may not be nested or
used recursively. Any command may be overridden by an alias (other than the
ALIAS command itself, of course).
> alias gbb get bread bag
> alias gac get all corpse
Type ALIAS <alias-name> to delete an alias that has already been defined.
> alias gbb
A semicolon (";") can be used to define multiple actions to be taken with
a single alias.
> alias eat get bread bag; eat bread
Note that the 'eat' contained within the eat alias is interpreted as the MUD's
internal eat command; aliases may not be nested or used recursively. The
variables $1, $2, ... $9 may be used to represent arguments given with
an alias.
Examples:
> alias killem cast 'fireball' $1; cast 'harm' $2
> killem fido mage
Would cast fireball on fido, followed by casting harm on mage. Variables
may be used repeatedly and in any order:
> alias helpem cast 'heal' $1; cast 'bless' $1; cast 'armor' $1
The special variable $* represents the entire input line after an alias:
> alias tr tell rasmussen $*
> tr hi there, how are you today?
You tell Rasmussen, 'hi there, how are you today?'

that was just one example of many.
once you reach level 20 or so you will want to thik about better equipment, well the only way to get nice equipment is through smobs (super mobs) they are not soloable and most are hard to find in remote regions, so you will need to ask if anyone is interested in forming a smob group and more than likely there will be a few people interested, group up and get set for battle. I will warn you most smobs eat dodgers alive. what is a dodger you might ask well let me explain a dodger wheres light weight clothing and pretty trinkets and is very nimble thanks to the skills of dodge and shield parry, while you you average warrior is abs (absorbs) which is yout typical straight armor that absorbs a % of the hits directed at you. Stick with abs for now and learn the mud, learn the zones and smob locatiosn and what they load, eventually you may decide to go dodge.
This should be enough to get you newbies started I will add more later, if you have a question you cant get answered mail me via the forums and I will try to be promt. Also if you see Galnor on (our head coder) send him all you questions and feel free to mail him, he just loves to interact with us mortals.
