Well, I figured I'd give this mud a try since I've heard good things about it, so I created a thief and leveled a little. But I was wondering, where do I get gold? Equipment? Anything at all? I can't get a lantern or gold to buy one, and nobody seemed to be on today.

Go south of the Holy Plaza of Caemlyn and you should see a container with items in it. If nothing is there, you can normally find items which load randomly in Caemlyn. For example, I have noticed that a lantern tends to load right near the stable. Helps get you started.

If all else fails, I'd get another kit. Kill the bandit at the top of the Road to Lugard, then work your way up from there.
